It is almost impossible not to fall in love with the classic simplicity of the drum mower. This does not guarantee that all mowers of this type are made in the same way. Power
There are not many quantitative indicators to evaluate the performance of a manual drum mower – at least not in the same way as comparing cutting speeds, power or motor size. However, I can respectfully confirm that according to the manufacturer, the Fiskars StaySharp Max is actually 60% easier to push than almost all other competing models. In a sense, the chain drive of the IntertiaDrive mower offers several times the cutting capacity of competitive mowers. Even more surprising is the fact that anyone could advertise this 52-pound mower with an otherwise pathetically low effort and at least match the performance of any motor-free competitor.
Easy to use
As a foreword, even a world-class drum mower such as Fiskars’ StaySharp Max would be a masochistic choice for the regular maintenance of lawns larger than a quarter of an acre. However, I see nothing for a lawn below this threshold that is as easy to install and operate as this exceptional double on a conventional landscape support. Assembling a pen can at best steal whole minutes from a hopelessly incompetent teenager. Maybe. Take the time to check the position of the knife and make sure that the cutting edges do not scratch the surrounding surfaces. Once all these flawless steps have been taken, place the ergonomic handle at the right height and enjoy productive cardiac surgery on the lawn. No noise to worry about, don’t hesitate to whip up this lawnmower on those dead nights if you like to maintain your lawn in the dark.
Reduction of quality and options
The lion’s share of the cutting quality of the famous Fiskars StaySharp Max is due to the ingenious arrangement of the five knife rollers. Place the unit in front of the wheel gutters, generating as much force as possible from the rear to turn it. Meanwhile, the position of the wheel itself allows the blades to protrude 18 inches across the width of the mower deck. This efficient use of the full width of the cutting path leaves no uncut stripes on the Fiskars StaySharp Max Wake and results in incredibly tight edges that no power mower can hope to achieve.
That doesn’t mean that Fiskars StaySharp Max sometimes isn’t up and running. He can handle dense herbs such as St. Augustine, Zoya, Bahia and Bermuda, a surgical cleanliness that would be applauded by a sublime fruit and vegetable trader, but he tends to stumble over the excellent high turf. Even in this case you don’t need more than a second to remove the dents. Fortunately, the VersaCut system allows you to adjust the height of cut from one to four centimetres in no time at all, with an amazing range of cutting levels for an engine-free lawnmower. When mowing, the reversible chute skilfully guides the clippings forwards and away from the operator’s feet or backwards and downwards – a flawless and precise approach to disposal that no previous manufacturer has ever justified not introducing.
Maintenance
Maintenance? What kind of service? Like the vast majority of roller mowers, Fiskars StaySharp Max needs a little fun in between. The StaySharp cutting system reduces blade wear and, like many other methods, ensures long-term reliable operation by strictly limiting contact between the cutting edges and the coating. I can’t help but point out that not only has the purity of each piece been finely tuned, but the seasonal need to grind each sheet has also been reduced. Otherwise, the terms of the three-year limited warranty should apply in full to the most serious and unexpected problems that may arise, although you will not find a more reliable tool than the one designed, manufactured and quality tested. The next time someone looks at a ten-year-old reaper and says you don’t make it the way it used to be, pass one on and say you’re right. Somebody made them even better.
Safety features
When you stop pressing Fiskars StaySharp Max, the blades stop rotating. For safety, release the handle. Caring for the lawn does not become any less dangerous.
Profitability
The price of the Fiskars StaySharp Max may be for consumers who are both in the market for non-powered lawnmowers and are aware that many competitors are worth only half of the sales price offered, i.e. almost $200 or less. This is a pity, because the erosion of the household would create a lawnmower that would be able to provide quality services for decades with a minimum of regular TLC. If your heart is absolutely attached to a drum mower, you shouldn’t recommend it strongly enough.
